Spain Visa (Schengen) from the UAE: How to Apply

How UAE residents apply for a Spain Schengen visa, including the new self-book appointment rule.

5 min read · 20 October 2026

UAE residents apply for a Spain Schengen visa through BLS International's visa application centres in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and since a recent system change you must book your own appointment online — travel agents and intermediaries can no longer book it for you. Standard Schengen processing is 15 calendar days once your application is submitted.

Last checked: 20 October 2026. Spain's visa rules, documents and appointment systems are set by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BLS International, and can change. Always confirm current requirements on the official BLS Spain visa UAE website before you apply.

Where do UAE residents apply for a Spain visa?

Spain's Schengen visa applications from the UAE are handled by BLS International, which operates visa application centres in Dubai (I Rise Tower, Barsha Heights/Tecom) and Abu Dhabi (Tamouh Tower, Marina Square, Al Reem Island), on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BLS Spain visa UAE: centre locations). BLS handles intake and processing of your application; it does not decide the outcome, which remains with Spanish consular authorities.

Can I still use a travel agent to book my appointment?

No — not for the appointment booking step. BLS introduced a self-book system requiring every applicant to book their own appointment directly through its official website, specifically to curb fraud and misuse of appointment slots. Bookings made by agencies or intermediaries are no longer accepted at the centre, and the system checks that the person booking is the applicant (Khaleej Times: BLS self-book appointment system). Booking through the official BLS website is free, and BLS staff will never ask for cash or payment to a personal account — a consultancy can still help you prepare documents and your application, just not book the appointment on your behalf.

Documents you'll need

EEA/EU spouses applying alongside a sponsor must now also book an appointment in advance; walk-ins are no longer accepted for this category either.

How long does a Spain visa take, and when should I apply?

Like all Schengen states, Spain's standard processing time is 15 calendar days from a complete application, though this can extend to 30 or, in some cases, 60 days if your case needs consultation with other Schengen states or additional review. Apply as early as your travel dates allow, and well before any non-refundable bookings.

What does a Spain visa cost?

Spain's visa fee is set by the Spanish government and BLS adds its own separate service charge on top, both of which are confirmed at the time you book your appointment rather than fixed figures we'd want to quote here, since they're reviewed periodically. Check the current fee breakdown directly on the official BLS Spain visa UAE site before you book, so you know the total cost upfront.

If your application is refused

BLS states that applicants whose application is refused can appeal directly to the embassy by addressing the specific reasons listed in the refusal letter, and that no prior appointment is needed to submit an appeal. Read the refusal letter carefully — it will tell you exactly which requirement wasn't met, which is usually more useful than reapplying from scratch without changing anything.

Frequently asked questions

No. BLS requires every applicant to book their own appointment directly on its official website; bookings made through agents are rejected.

How much travel insurance coverage do I need for a Spain visa?

At least €30,000, covering medical evacuation and repatriation, as required under EU rules for Schengen visas.

Where are the Spain visa centres in the UAE?

BLS International operates centres in Dubai (Barsha Heights) and Abu Dhabi (Al Reem Island); check the official BLS site for current opening hours.

How long does a Spain Schengen visa take to process?

The standard is 15 calendar days, though it can take longer if your application needs extra consultation.
