Which country should you apply to?
As a general rule, you apply to the Schengen country where you will spend the most nights. If you spend equal time in several countries, apply to the one you enter first. Applying to the wrong country is a common reason for delays and refusals.
The core requirements
- Passport with sufficient validity and blank pages
- Completed application form and recent photographs
- Travel medical insurance that meets Schengen requirements
- Proof of accommodation and a day-by-day itinerary
- Bank statements and proof of income
- UAE residence permit valid beyond your return date
Understanding the 90/180 rule
A Schengen short-stay visa allows you to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen area. Plan multi-country trips against this rule, especially if you have travelled recently.
When to apply
Embassies generally accept applications within a set window before travel, commonly up to six months and often no later than 15 days ahead. Because processing can take longer in peak season, apply as early as your embassy allows.
Tips that improve your file
Keep dates consistent across your insurance, itinerary and accommodation. Show a stable job or business, and explain any unusual bank activity in your cover letter.
